Valerian, The Legendary

Chapter 262 - 262 Dragon Roar.

The leader of the Lunake clan snorted and said, “You were just now questioning whether I am a man or not. I will question you now, I dare you to wait and face our guardian.”

Valerian smiled and said, “I thought that you will never ask me to fight. I thought that roar is the best that your guardian beast can do.”

The leader of the enemy side had enough of Valerian’s cocky attitude and said loudly, “Use your conches and call out the guardian, this bastard human dares to disrespect our protector. He waltzes inside our territory and then he kills our clan members. This blasphemy must not go unanswered, brothers come on, let us ask our protector to help us.”

The soldiers all disengaged from battle and they drew more distance from each other. Valerian was surprised and said, “What are you all staring at them foolishly for?”

Then his spear shaft was stomped against the ground and then a high-level earth spell was cast and the soldiers who were still within the range of his attack all were immobilized by spikes passing through their feet. Then he rushed forward, casting a variety of spells. However, the enemy was not a fool and everyone began blowing their conches.

Even the injured ones did not hold back and blew hard in the conches. Valerian ground his teeth and closed his eyes, the next moment, his surroundings seemed to have been set on fire. A lot of ember sparks flew from his body toward the lunakes. This was another high-level spell, that cleansed all the things deemed negative by the caster.

The Lunakes were able to tolerate the slight sting bought by the sparks earlier, but the sparks did not extinguish that easily, they started to burn intensely. Valerian had sent at least five hundred soldiers from the Lunake Clan into running or left them to lay on the ground. The Clar-awks did not aim to kill people.

Valerian was holding back as well. He did not claim lives in this battle, but the fear he planted inside these brave warriors of the Lunake clan was enough for him to walk unbridled on this battlefield. On the other hand, the warriors from the Lunake clan were moving away from him like a rabbit hiding from a tiger. Fear was a double-edged sword, it would make your enemy afraid of you but at the same time, they will tighten up their defense and hamper your progress.

.....

This fear also came with a big chink in the armor. Valerian moved forward quickly but the enemy was not allowing him to attack them as he wished. He was not the only one with magic spells at his disposal. This was a battle between battlemages. Humans might be gifted in a selective manner, but the magical were all born with the same ability, they were all battlemages.

In such a situation the enemy was raining down magic spells on Valerian and the guy was defending himself while attacking them. This was not something that could be done by normal people, Valerian had developed a very keen battle sense in the early stages of his power chase.

Just when the entire army of the Clar-awks was trying to rush forward and take down as many enemies as they could, the ground began to tremble slowly, with every passing second the trembling became intense. Valerian did not continue to chase after the scared Lunakes and decisively said, “Pull back, something is not right.”

The chiefs all assessed the situation to be unfavorable and pulled back with their squadrons. The maiden asked, “Master Valerian, can you tell me what is going on?”

Valerian squinted his gaze and said, “It should be their guardian beast.”

The maiden’s mood became solemn, she asked, “How do we deal with this situation? Guardian beasts are supposed to be very strong. Our forces, even if they are strong might not be able to face this entity.”

Valerian sighed and said, “Do you have no information about this beast?”

While the maiden shook her head and said, “I do not know much about this beast, except that it is a snake-type one.”

Valerian nodded and began to find out more details from the scene in front of him. The young man was shivering from the tremors he felt in his body. The intensity was too much. He said in a low voice, “This is not a snake. When did a snake grow out legs.”

Just when he said this, the ground exploded. Even though most of the forces of the claw-hawks had retreated, a small number of the soldiers were still caught up in the aftermath of the explosion and then Valerian saw something that made him shocked. He gulped at the scene in front of him, and he was not the only shocked person in this place.

The explosion in the ground revealed a network of wide tunnels deep underground. The lunakes were snakes and they preferred building cities under the ground and using cave holes as an exit. However, at this moment, a dragon’s head popped out from the exploded ground for everyone to see. While the Lunakes were cheering, Valerian and the Clar-awks were shaking. They did not expect something like this to come at them.

The dragon raised its head and before anything else, he cast his gaze at Valerian, who was standing in front of the Clar-awk forces and a deep voice sounded in everyone’s ears, “Oh, so it turned out to be an insignificant human, leading a bunch of poultry people to attack me?”

Valerian raised his eyebrow and taking a step forward, he said, “A dragon who dares to hide behind a bunch of worms does not sound all that awe-inspiring to me.”

The dragon was shocked and so were the people. They did not expect Valerian to be so courageous that even when facing a dragon, his composure did not change and his actions were even more presumptuous. The young man held his sword and said, “You are at the end of your life. even if you have the strength to kill us all, you will not do that, because then the Lunakes will not be needing you. I do not understand why are you sticking with these people. They do not have any sense of modesty, nobility, and even shame. How can you be so lowly? Such a disappointment.”

The dragon cast a gaze at Valerian and asked, “What is your capital? What is it that makes you so fearless, human? Do you think I will not kill you?”

Valerian smiled and said, “Allow me to answer that for you.”

He took a deep breath, infused his mana and battle aura in his throat, and then, a roar sounded in the forest. The sound shocked the people and the air stagnated. The dragon pushed his entire body over the ground and said, “Who are you? What are you doing here?”

Valerian smiled and replied, “You do not have to worry about who I am, and neither do you have to know why am I here. All you need to know is that you have not yet paid your respects to the new queen because you were hiding in here. Her Majesty will not allow disobedience to grow in her rule.”

The dragon asked, “What do you mean? I have been exiled from the clan two decades ago. How can I pay requests to the new queen? You are not from dragon island, are you? You impostor!”

Before the dragon got a chance to get angry. Valerian shook his head and said, “You need proof of my identity, right?”

Then seven orbs of mana suddenly appeared in the void around him. The dragon shivered and asked, “You have the innate talent to shapeshift?”

Valerian smirked and said, “That is not for you to know, please choose, what your answer will be. Do you wish to kill me or do you wish to get a chance to earn forgiveness?”

The dragon could not answer, going back to the clan will allow him a proper burial and this will be a very good thing for him. Valerian was showing him the hope that he had been longing for.

However, he did not trust Valerian completely because if he managed to fly over to dragon island, it will be his end. Those, who have been exiled from the clan will be executed.

One dragon roar had made the battle come to a stay still.
